KERBSIDE WASTE COLLECTION

In the summer of 2017-18, we experienced our first holiday period under the new three bin kerbside collection system, not without many issues such as overflowing rubbish bins lining our streets! The council promised that a review of the system would be undertaken following the challenges experienced by the community.

At the August 2018 meeting, Council resolved to:
Retain the current budgeted kerbside waste collection service level for the summer seasons, with
   a. A change of the Christmas Day collection service to Boxing Day each year.
   b. Extending the recycling collection services to conclude after the Australia Day Weekend each year.
   c. Undertaking further education focusing on holiday homes owners and real estate agents.
   d. Placing Waste Services staff at customer service counters between the Christmas and New Year period.
   e. The option for holiday homes registered with Bass Coast Shire Council as prescribed accommodation (holiday home, existing or new) to take up a 240l landfill bin at no additional cost for 2018/19.

The Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, told BCRRA that she firmly believes increased public awareness of the importance of rubbish & recyling (through the media including the ABC's "War on Waste" program) when combined with these steps will ensure we have no repeat of last year's problems.

UPDATE  -  February 2019  -  UPDATE

Whilst there has still been some confusion amongst visitors to our area over which bins are collected on which days, it seems that relatively few people experiencing difficulties with the Waste Collection System as it is currently operating.
